Papyrus (Egyptian paper sedge, bulrush)  Cyperus papyrus  tropical.

The long spongy stalks of the papyrus plant were used in ancient Egypt for skiffs and boats of various sizes. It is probable that much of the Bible was written on sheets of papyrus. Indeed, our word 'paper' is derived from the Greek name for pith of the sedge plant from which the writing material was made.
