Lily  Lilium candidum  perennial.
[We have substituted the Asiatic lily, Mont Blanc, for L.candidum, the white Madonna lily, which would probably not survive our winter.]

The biblical lily of the field may have been in reference to the anemone, rose, lily, iris, daffodil, jasmine, lily of the valley and almond blossoms. The Bible often speaks of flowers in a collective sense, thus the 'flowers of the field.' The Madonna lily can be found today on Mount Carmel and the hills further north in the land of the Bible.

Jesus used the flowers of the field to teach about the glory of the created world, God's unending care, and to emphasize that God's grace is freely given, not earned by man and his own efforts.
