Grapevine Vitus vinifera. The grape is one of the most important fruits of the Holy Land, so it is not surprising that it appears 300 times in the Bible. Grapes were symbolic of peace and tranquility. They are used as fresh fruit, raisins and wine. Wine is used at symbolic occasions such as the Passover, the Last Supper and Holy Communion. Young grape vine leaves are often cooked with rice rolled in them. Of the hundreds of Bible references, one is John 15:1-2. |
