Parsley (bitter herb)  Petroselinium crispum  biennial.

When the people of Israel were about to escape from Egypt for the Promised Land, they ate their first Passover meal: roast meat with unleavened bread and bitter herbs as a reminder of harsh experiences. Other bitter herbs are lettuce, chicory, eryngo, horseradish and sow-thistle.
