Aloe, a drug known by the Egyptians, was used in their highly perfected art of embalming. The drug was obtained from the pulp of its fleshy leaves. The aloe juice was used as a medication in Bible times and is still used today to heal cuts, open sores, and even internally. Aloe vera is the most used today for medication.
