Flax Linum saphyr perennial. [Substituted for Linum usitatissimum (true annual flax) and Linum humile (smaller growing flax)] Linen is one of the world's oldest textiles and it is made from the fibers of the flax plant L. usitatissimum; L. humile was cultivated in ancient Egypt for its linseed oil. Sails, measuring lines, rope and lamp wicks were made from flax. Swaddling clothes were often made of linen. Genesis 41:42, 50:26 |
