Mission Statement
The Bread of Life Ministries, a nonprofit organization, exists to serve the hungry and the homeless people in the Augusta area. One nutritious meal a day, six days a week, served at the kitchen, seeks to relieve physical hunger and offer an opportunity for fellowship. Emergency housing is provided to those in need of shelter. This Agency has been formed by area churches whose Christian faith is very clear about responsibilities to those in need. We combine in our efforts to serve as the instrument of God as we help His people.
Bread of Life Ministries can be reached at (207)626-3434.

Have you ever wanted to give something to Bread of Life, but wasn't sure what was needed?
We love Wal-Mart gift cards! We received many of them at Christmas time, and besides making good presents at that time, they have helped us out a lot in the weeks since. Some things that we have used them for are: painting supplies when a local youth group came to our shelter to paint; painting supplies when another local youth group came to paint our soup kitchen; school supplies for two young children who recently stayed at our shelter; clothing for a young single woman who stayed at the shelter; food for a poor single mother living in the area; food for a poor single woman who recently moved out of the shelter; kitchen gadgets for another young woman who just moved out of the shelter.
Our supply is running low, and they are so very useful that we hate to see it run out. If you would like to help Bread of Life in its mission to serve the poor, please consider donating one or two $10 Wal-Mart gift cards.
Soup Kitchen Help: Our Saturday volunteer staff at the soup kitchen is getting thin, and the devoted few who continue to come in are feeling the strain! Please help! We need to have a group of 5-8 people who can work for approximately 3 to 4 hours on Saturday on a regualr basis. This is an excellent youth group activity, but individual teens and adults are also urged to come forward. Call 626-3434 if you want to help with this important ministry.
Joe Drapeau, a local teen, has been a Bread of Life volunteer for about 12 months and in that time has proven to be one of the best. He was recently awarded the 2002 Spirit of America Youth Volunteer Award by the Augusta City Council. Congratulations, Joe, and thank you!
Statistics
2001—Our occupancy year-to-date has been 92% compared to 20% just five years ago, this in spite of increasing our capacity by 60% over the last 18 months. 96 days this year we have been over our 16-bed capacity. We are serving an increasing number of people, especially families with children. This year we have already seen over 100 children who have spent 1500 nights with us. We project a 2000 bed-night shortage in 2002. Your support helps us move people more quickly to a safe place of their own. Through the generosity of many and the grace of God we now have a full time person who helps the people in our shelter get connected to housing and services more quickly. He is a real blessing.
